I recently bought a light grey pair of cotton lightweight trousers but after a first wash (using persil liquid at 40 degrees) they have turned brownish in patches mainly on the front- and look faded already. Why ?
take them back to the shop. also in future wash jeans, trousers inside out it helps maintain colour. no idea how though!

there is a product call "dylon fabric dye" which you put in your washing machine and re-dye the product in your washing machine. You can buy this in most shops that sell hardware type stuff, it cheap and works well! Hope this helps
