Trading remains firm at lint market
KARACHI: Trading remained firm with higher volumes traded amid grade issue, traders at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) said on Saturday.
Mills and spinners in Sindh and Punjab stations bought all grades of lint on competitive prices while physical prices remained under pressure during the week, traders said.
The KCA revised the spot rate downward by Rs 300 per maund during the week to Rs 5,450 per maund in order to support the weak ginners to fetch better prices, floor brokers said.
The physical prices remained around Rs 6,000 per maund to Rs 6,150 per maund depending on grades, they said.
It is the fourth consecutive fortnight lint arrival report of crop season 2011-12 by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association. The country received around 2.2 million bales more during this period as compared to same period last year, said analyst Shakeel Ahmad.
GEORGIA'S OVTs AND COTTON VARIETIES PLANTED IN 2011 ...
GEORGIA’S OFFICIAL VARIETY TRIALS
Georgia’s farmers are very fortunate to have one of the best sources of the performance of varieties in the nation in the University of Georgia’s official variety trials (OVTs). The cotton OVTs combined with numerous large-scale, replicated cotton variety trials coordinated by University of Georgia Extension cotton specialists Dr. Guy Collins and Dr. Jared Whitaker and county agents throughout the state give farmers a tremendous source to evaluate cotton varieties in a number of soil types, planting dates, locations and irrigated or dry land. I have been releasing the data as soon as I get it on this blog and have gotten a number of questions on the OVTs. Don Day, University of Georgia Program Variety Evaluation Director, gives insight on how the UGA OVTs are conducted on On The Farm at OTF-DayOVTs .
