I would use the gentle cycle of your washing machine. Allow the dress to air dry..if it's still not the size you want it to be...put it in the dryer...you may have to use a steam iron to flatten any decorative crochet.

I have recently made a cotton dress and want to know how to properly care for it (washing, drying, ironing ). It is a simple design with a zip at the back

Cotton is very durable and depending on the staining can be washed safely up to 60C. It's OK to tumble but better with a cooling cycle and can be ironed up to the iron's maximum setting. I always find it better to iron straight from the dryer whilst still a little damp.
